How to Get a Wine Stain Out of a Car Seat

A spilled glass of red wine on a fabric car seat looks permanent, but most fresh stains lift if you act before they dry. Blot — never rub — the area with a clean dry cloth to pull up as much liquid as possible first.

Mix one tablespoon of washing-up liquid and one tablespoon of white vinegar into two cups of warm water. Sponge it onto the stain, let it sit for five minutes, then blot again with a dry cloth. Repeat until the colour fades, then rinse with a cloth dampened in plain water and let the seat air-dry.

For older, set-in stains, a dab of hydrogen peroxide on light-coloured fabric (test a hidden spot first) breaks down the remaining pigment.
